MARA MARTIN IS BACK BABY
Hello everyone,
Thank you for visiting my page. I am back for the second and last stab at the London Marathon.
Last year thanks to your amazing donations we managed to raise £15000 for the Stroke Association and became their top fundraiser for the event. This year, lets see what magic we can rustle up!
As many of now know the Stroke Association is very close to my heart.
In September 2018 I had a Stroke affecting my Cerebellum, the co-ordination centre of our brains.
I am hugely passionate about spreading awareness of Stroke in young adults. If you stumble across my page I hope you leave with the following appreciation -
- Stroke happens in young people! I was 25!
- Signs and Symptoms are different in everyone. FAST is not the only presentation. My symptoms included -
1. Ataxic Gait (walking as if I was very very drunk! - Was not!)
2. Loss of co-ordination of my left hand (despite good strength)
3. Loss of co-ordination of my talking (having to force words out of my mouth)
4. Loss of vision in my right eye
5. Very heightened senses to light and sound
Trust your body, please speak to a Medical Professional if things are simply 'just not right'!
- Be aware of the psychological battle a functionally fit Stroke Survivor may be struggling with. This applies to other conditions too e.g. a Cancer Survivor in remission.
- Be kind to all - You never know what is going on behind the 'fine, all good thanks' facade.
- Stroke Survivors can go on to achieve amazing things. I have shared some Photos on this page as a glimpse into the things I am proud of - All photos are Post Stroke!
- Give your loved ones a big cuddle if you haven't done so enough recently - Mine are absolute LEGENDS!
I really appreciate your visit to my page. If you are unable to donate, please read my story and share within conversations that you may have, lets create a ripple effect and raise awareness. If you are able to donate, THANK YOU, your money will go towards funding lifesaving care and research for the future.
All my love,
Chloe
As many of you supported me last year, I have tried to give a brief overview. If you would like more detail on what happened to me, please read my story on last years JustGiving Page (link below).
