Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 14th January 2026 I am braving the shave for Prostate Cancer Uk, specifically to help raise awareness for prostate cancer. The number of people I know who have been affected by prostate cancer is growing year on year, distant relatives, friends and two years ago it became close family when my grandfather was diagnosed. With his diagnosis came a huge learning curve, as a vet nurse I’d say I have good scientific knowledge about cancer, what I have become all to aware of is the statistics around prostate cancer and how many more men could be helped and have a far better prognosis if they were proactive in their prostate health. Cancer Research UK statistics tell us that Prostate Cancer is the 2nd most common cancer in the UK, accounting for over 25% of all male new cancer cases each year and all the data also points to survival rates being really high if diagnosis is made early. Now we all know that the majority of men when you mention prostate checks immediately start embarrassed joking about fingers where the sun doesn’t shine and coughing (you know its true!) A very simplistic view, however, seriously if it could save your life what is the issue??!!

By Braving the Shave I am doing my bit to raise awareness, sharing my story and motivation on social media, raising some money (hopefully!) to support research and by being able to tell everyone who looks at my bald head and asks why the reason. And if that can save just one person from a late diagnosis and one family from the pain of watching a loved one undergo cancer treatment and maybe fade away then how cool will that be! 🩵🩵
