I am doing the Rugby Against Cancer Trek '25

70 mile Trek from Twickenham Stadium to Portsmouth Rugby Club · 3 May 2025
So it is time for my next challenge, a lot has gone on since my last!
This year in May, I will be walking with an awesome group of people from the Golden Gates at Twickenham Stadium, to Portsmouth Rugby Club, yes, that's around 70 miles, in support of Rugby Against Cancer.
There a number of reasons for this, first being getting back into Rugby lately, playing for Hellingly RFC (#loonies) where my son William also plays for the Mini's (#hornets), the family and community this sport surrounds you with is priceless.
Many of you will know that I lost my Father just over a year ago. He is an absolute inspiration for anyone looking to challenge themselves, smashing hundreds of miles on his bicycle over the years raising unbelievable amounts of money for charities across the world. I know that he would approve of this and certainly will be there pushing us over the line.
Finally, recently we had to say goodbye to a dear friend of ours, Stephen Gander, and I am doing this in his memory, plus I know all the names he would be calling me for doing this. Steve really was the definition of unique, you wouldn't find a man like him elsewhere, a resilient, funny, intelligent, gentleman who loved cooking meat on an open flame as much as I did. He and his family, Amy, Millie, Edward and Hugo, have had to struggle in the fight against cancer for a number of years, when sadly it just proved too much for his system.
So there are the three reasons, The Rugby, The Challenge, The Cause.
Rugby Against Cancer is an amazing charity, harnessing the power of Rugby to raise funds for the fight against cancer and those affected, so please, it doesn't matter how big or small, if you can, please chuck something our way if you can to help carry this fight on!
Thank you, Chris
