As some of you know in my “spare” time I moonlight / volunteer as the Chair of my local Hospice. This is a project close to my heart as we are in the process of taking it from a small 6 bed unit that focuses primarily on end of life care, to the centre of all services in the borough for palliative and end of life care supporting people and their families with life limiting conditions to live life to the full. We don’t necessarily provide all the services (although we are expanding to provide holistic therapy for patients and families as well as respite at night and weekend to carers who need a break) but we are building links in primary care and with the hospital so we can signpost people and coordinate care to deliver the best possible experience.

Now comes the money…..

It takes £4.5m to run the hospice and we have to find £4m of that ourselves ever year.
