Francis family Vintage Pedal fundraiser for Dementia UK

Chris Francis is raising money for Dementia UK
In memory of Alfred Francis
Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses – who we continually support and develop – provide life-changing care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Story

Having seen the pain and heartbreak dementia can cause, I’ll be completing this challenge in the memory of my Grandad Alfred Francis. A World War II veteran he worked as a bridge engineer on the railways for most of his life. He was luckier than most, dementia only taking hold in his last few years and it was not as severe as it is for many - but seeing its effects was so sad. It not only effects the sufferer but their loved ones too. This charity goes a long way to provide the care and support families need during this difficult time.

The Black Diamond Sportive is an organised event by Barnsley Road club and takes in a hilly loop around the region. An already tough course, I will be completing the ride on a 100 year old bike with wooden wheels and 3 gears…. in traditional merino clothing. Also riding this challenging sportive will be my dad, my sister and my nephew. Any support you can give will be greatly appreciated!!
