Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In June 2023 my amazing wife Cheryl (Chez as she is affectionally known) was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Dementia. In less than two years Chez has gone from being a fit, active, fun loving person who lived life to the full, to someone who has now lost all mental capacity and will require 24/7 care for the rest of her life.
Chez was so passionate about everything she did, from her work in the NHS to her love of music, dancing and especially cooking, Chez was at her happiest in the kitchen, music blasting, wine in hand, dog at her feet, cooking for family and friends.
Unfortunately Dementia has taken that from her, along with all her wonderful memories. Whilst we continue to treasure the time we still have with Chez, the disease has taken my wife of 35 years and our two sons have lost their mum. We are devastated, heartbroken, and we miss her terribly.
It's too late for Chez to benefit from a cure, but scientists funded by Race Against Dementia are confident that prevention and a possible cure for this dreadful disease are just around the corner. That is why we as a family have decided to support this fantastic charity.
From 1st March - 21st September 2025 (World Alzheimer's Day) I aim to walk at least 1000km with our gorgeous Golden Retriever Teddy, in an attempt to raise £1000 for Race Against Dementia. I'm actually hoping to walk a lot further and raise a lot more, let's see how it goes. I have set the ball rolling with the first donation and any shortfall in the £1000, will met by me. Progress and the places we visit will be recorded across my social media sites and the Strava App.
If by any chance you would like to make a donation, no matter how big or small, or you just want to share this page, I would be extremely grateful. Over 55 million people around the world are affected by Dementia, lets help fund the brilliant people who are working tirelessly to bring it to an end.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
