Story
This year me and my brother both took part in the London Marathon 2026 for Age UK. We were running in memory of our Nan who sadly lived with dementia and Alzheimer’s. Together, we wanted to support the older generation who need help and care, and my brother went on to raise an incredible £3,000 for the charity.
Sadly, during the marathon, our lives changed forever.
My brother suffered a cardiac arrest caused by severe rhabdomyolysis after overheating during the race. The quick actions of the St John Ambulance team and other emergency responders that day helped save his life and gave him the chance to keep fighting.
The days and weeks that followed were incredibly difficult. There were many moments of uncertainty as he battled through intensive care, but he showed incredible strength and determination. Seeing his journey first-hand has given me a whole new appreciation for the people who respond when every second counts.
That is why I have chosen to run the London Marathon 2027 for St John Ambulance and raise £2,000 for this incredible charity.
Without the dedication, training and commitment of their volunteers and medical teams, many families would face a very different outcome. My family will always be grateful for the role they played in saving my brother’s life.
This marathon is not only a personal challenge, but also a thank you to those who were there when my family needed them most, and a tribute to my brother’s courage, determination and ongoing recovery.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help support the lifesaving work St John Ambulance carries out every day.
Thank you for your support.
