🚴♂️ Cycling John O’Groats to Land’s End in 8 Days for Prostate Cancer UK
The Challenge
This summer, I’ll be taking on one of the UK’s most iconic endurance challenges: cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End in just 8 days.
That’s roughly 850–900 miles (depending on the route), meaning we’ll be riding over 100 miles per day, across some of the toughest terrain Britain has to offer. From the Scottish Highlands to the rolling hills of the South West, we can expect: Long, physically demanding days in the saddle, Steep climbs and fast descents, early starts and tired legs and of course the unpredictable British weather.
It will push us both physically and mentally to our limits – but it’s nothing compared to the challenges faced by those living with prostate cancer.
The Team & Training
I won’t be taking on this challenge alone. I’ll be part of an incredible group of cyclists, each with their own personal reasons for being there, but all united by a shared determination to make a difference.
Over the past months, we’ve been putting in the hard miles together — training in all conditions, from long weekend rides to early mornings and challenging routes. It hasn’t always been easy, but that’s been part of the journey. We’ve built endurance, resilience, and a real sense of team spirit along the way.
More than just the physical preparation, it’s been about supporting each other — sharing stories, keeping motivation high, and reminding ourselves why we signed up for something this demanding in the first place.
This isn’t just a cycling challenge; it’s a collective effort. A team brought together by purpose, pushing each other to go further than we thought possible, and doing it for causes that truly matter.
Why This Matters to Me
I’m 43 years old, and prostate cancer isn’t just something I’ve heard about — it’s something my family has lived through.
Both my Dad and Grandad have faced this disease. I’ve seen first-hand the uncertainty, the worry, and the toll it takes—not just physically, but emotionally on everyone around them. It’s not just the diagnosis itself, but everything that comes with it: the waiting, the treatments, the side effects, and the impact on everyday life.
What’s particularly difficult is that prostate cancer can often be silent in its early stages. Many men don’t realise they’re at risk or don’t feel comfortable talking about it. By the time symptoms appear, it can already be advanced.
Knowing my family history means I carry that awareness with me every day. It’s a reminder that this is something that could affect me, my friends, and so many others. That’s why this challenge feels so important — it’s not just about raising money, but about starting conversations, raising awareness, and encouraging men to take their health seriously.
Too many families go through this. Too many people are affected. And yet it’s still not talked about enough.
Why Prostate Cancer UK?
Prostate Cancer UK is a charity that is genuinely making a difference in the fight against the most common cancer in men.
Right now, 1 in 8 men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. For those with a family history, like mine, that risk is even higher. Despite this, awareness is still far too low, and early detection can make all the difference.
That’s where Prostate Cancer UK plays such a vital role
