Story
Jack & Chris are gearing up to tackle the Wild Deer 53km Ultra Trail Run to support Sarah's Star. The 53km circular route starts at Shotley Bridge near Consett in County Durham, runners go over the moors to two reservoirs then follow footpaths of Derwent Gorge and Muggleswick Woods. They end the run back in Shotley Bridge with most completing the circuit in 6 - 10 hours.
Jack & Chris heard about Sarah’s Star through their Newcastle office colleague, Clare, who volunteers with the charity.
The charity is just over a year old and mainly focuses on providing holistic services to adults with long-term incurable illnesses. The goal for the next 12 months is to expand into children’s services. As we all know, the NHS waiting list for children’s mental health support is over a year long so we will be fundraising to ringfence a fund to provide therapy to children who are living with incurable illness. This could be children living with cancer, acting as carers for parents with MS or siblings struggling with their brother or sister living in hospital awaiting a transplant.
There are so many children out there who need specialist support and our goal is to fundraise to help 4 families with 6 sessions each. Therapy costs £40 a session so our goal of £960 will allow each recipient to receive 6 sessions of play-based therapy to enable them to cope better in a world that children shouldn’t have to live.
On 20th October 2024 Jack & Chris will be taking on this marathon challenge aiming to raise £960 for this important cause. Please donate as little or as much as you can to support this charity and your support is much appreciated.
