Story
Running for My Hero 💚
Four years ago, I laced up a pair of trainers during lockdown just to get moving. Since then, I’ve lost over 4 stone — though I’ll be honest, a bit has crept back on (turns out carbs and Netflix are much easier hobbies than running!). Still, I’ve run three half marathons and discovered a love of running I never expected.
It hasn’t always been smooth sailing — let’s just say running and I have had our ups and downs (usually questioning all my life choices somewhere around mile 7). But somehow, I’ve kept going. And now, the dream is here:
The London Marathon.
My Why: Dad 💚
My cover photo is of me and my dad at my wedding last year. He had just turned 80, and he is my absolute hero.
Over the years, My Dad has faced more battles than anyone should. He’s fought cancer time and again with a strength and courage that amaze me. Last year, he went through the toughest fight of all – major surgery to remove a lung. Through it all, he’s shown resilience I can only aspire to.
Every mile I run, I’ll be thinking of him. If my Dad can face everything he has with such bravery, then I can definitely drag myself around 26.2 miles (even if there are tears, blisters, and a few dodgy selfies along the way).
Why Macmillan 💚
Macmillan have been incredible for my Dad, for us as a family, and through the amazing partnership we have with them in the Greene King family. Their compassion, support, and guidance have made such a difference and when I got the chance to run the London Marathon for them, it felt special!
This is more than just a race. It’s my way of saying thank you to the people who’ve been there for my hero.
Why Donate 💚
Every penny goes directly to Macmillan Cancer Support – helping them continue their vital work so more families like mine don’t have to face cancer alone.
If you can spare anything – no matter how small – it will make a huge difference. Together, we can help Macmillan give care, comfort, and hope to people when they need it most.
The London Marathon is my dream, my thank-you, and my tribute to my dad. I’ll get there – even if it’s not pretty, even if I shuffle across the line – because this one’s for him.
Every mile will hurt… but donating won’t 😅💚
