Cheap Bike Challenge for Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team

Chris Massey is raising money for Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team

Cheap Bike Challenge · 9 November 2025

A Mountain Rescue Team which is an integral part of the regional and national search and rescue service - providing primary cover in an area of approximately 350 square miles across East Lancashire and parts of Greater Manchester. The Team is made up entirely of volunteers members available 24/7.

Story

We all know the best ideas are formed in the pub, especially post ride pub sessions.

We were chatting about how much we rely on our relatively modern mountain bikes to get us safely (ish) through our rides and wondered whether we could manage on old tech. "Imagine doing the Mary Townley loop" we laughed... Then the laughter awkwardly died down, and we realised we had just inadvertently set ourselves a challenge that we could now not back out of.

So, here we are. 3 idiot mountain bike mates, all the proud owners of sub £100 bikes planning to ride the challenging MTL, a 50 mile off road loop including 6500 feet of climbing.

And while we're at it why don't we use the opportunity to raise some money for worthy causes. Given that we are the type of people to need their services, we're raising money for Mountain Rescue teams in our area. So please add a bit of an incentive with a generous donation.

We ride 9th November
