Story
My daughter Alice was diagnosed with SMA in 2019, and is now completely dependant on a wheelchair or walking aid for very short distances. She desperately needed a powered chair, which we had significant difficulty in funding at the time. The Naval Children's Charity came to the rescue, and purchased Alice her much needed chair and also gave me and the family a small break away from the stress and pressures that come with managing this disibility in children.
The Naval Children's Charity have been truly amazing, and in return, I'd like to raise a small amout of money to aid them in their efforts to continue to help children like Alice. I will be (with a team of serving and former Commandos) paddling a 2-man folding boat (Klepper) from 43 Commando (Helensburgh) to the Commando Memorial in Spean Bridge (Fort William), around some of Scotland's most treacherous waters in winter. Living on the shoreline in tents and making the most of the tidal schedules, we'll hopefully be arriving at the Commando Memorial on the 27th October 2023, where we will carry the folding for fhe last 5 miles. 7 days of paddling through Commando country....
We will culminate the event with a remembrance service at the Commando memorial on both the 27th Oct, and more appropriately, on the 28th October (The Royal Marines Commandos birthday).
The Naval Children's Charity:
We are proud to support several thousand children each year, either with individual grants or through community support and resources. We place the child at the centre of our work, seeking to improve lives in the longer term based on health, wellbeing, security, education and life chances. While many children and their families who we help may be facing difficulties, our role is to try and make things better. A high percentage of the children, or their parents, supported by us are bereaved, disabled or ill. You can help us to help them.
