Story
Why I'm Fundraising -
On the 23rd April 2023 my father sadly passed away. That day will be forever etched in my memory as the day I lost my hero, my icon, my role model and by far the greatest man I have ever known.
After saying my final good byes, I switched on the TV to see thousands of amazing people running the London Marathon and I decided in that moment that I wanted to run the Marathon in his honour.
My fathers health issues were extremely complex but a large proportion of his issues were neurological and doctors found it hard to accurately diagnose his conditions. For that reason I am proud to be fund raising for Brain Research UK to support the amazing work they do to help others with neurological conditions.
Please help me in any way you can to raise my £2,000 target for the amazing and critical work of Brain Research UK so hopefully one day others won't have to suffer the way my father did.
My Fathers Story -
Having had a frontal lobe stroke (TIA) in 2014 his health slowly started to deteriorate. He developed small blood vessel disease and eventually peripheral neuropathy which combined with other health issues robbed him of his mobility and meant he became completely bed bound and reliant on others.
For a man who had been so active and fit in his youth this was one of the cruellest cards he could have been dealt but I still admire his strength and courage in such adversity.
If all of that wasn't enough in the last 6 months of his life we believe he also developed dementia and eventually lost the ability to speak, another devastating blow for a man who delighted in talking to everyone he met (even if they'd usually struggle to get a word in).
I always loved our chats and would delight in hearing all my fathers incredible stories but towards the end I don't even know if he could understand me or even knew who I was at times. I would give anything to hear his voice one last time or listen to one of his stories.
He was the kindest man I ever knew and the world is certainly a darker place without his light in it.
