24hour Winter mountain bike race for Pancreatic Cancer UK

Chris Monk is raising money for Pancreatic Cancer UK

Strathpuffer- the legendary 24 hour mountain-bike endurance event held in the Highlands of Scotland Freezing temperatures. 17 hours of darkness. Miles upon miles of gruelling terrain. · 10 January 2026

It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.

Story

I am taking part in Strathpuffer 2026 on January 9th and 10th – an epic 24-hour mountain bike race in the Scottish Highlands where participants complete as many laps as possible over a gruelling trail as part of a team of two with my daughter Katie.

My friend and colleague, Margot Hunter is now receiving palliative care for pancreatic cancer in the Marie Curie hospice in Edinburgh.

We have worked together for all of our veterinary careers and established Dunedin Vets, 30 years ago.

Margot made a full recovery after being diagnosed with breast cancer 17 years ago, but in 2024, received the devastating news that she had pancreatic cancer which had spread to her liver.

I am now hoping to raise as much money as possible for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

It is going to be a tough challenge in what are likely to be freezing temperatures, with possible snow, rain and mud, while 17 hours of the event are in darkness..
