Chris's April Class-A-thon challenge for St Catherine's Hospice Preston

Chris Nicol is raising money for St Catherine's Hospice Preston

April Class-athon challenge · 1 April 2026

St Catherine’s cares for patients and families who are affected by life-shortening conditions, at the hospice and in people’s own homes across Chorley, Preston and South Ribble. Our specialist care helps people enjoy the best possible quality of life to the end of life.

Story

My name is Chris Nicol. I'm 57, nearly 58, and this April I'm doing every single gym class at my local gym — every day — for the entire month.

That's up to 49 classes a week. Bootcamp at 6am. Aqua at 9pm. Spin, yoga, box fit, body pump, Zumba, pilates, LBT, HIIT — all of it. Every day. For 30 days straight. No days off.

I call it the Class-a-Thon.

Why am I doing this?

Because over twenty years ago, my dad Jim spent his final days in the care of St Catherine's Hospice. And I saw first-hand what that place does. The people who work there are something else entirely. What they give to patients and families in those final days — the kindness, the dignity, the humanity of it — is genuinely priceless. You can't put a number on what St Catherine's meant to my family. But I can try.

I'm also doing this because I want to show people — especially people my age and older — that age is just a number. That it's never too late to move, to push yourself, to do something that stands out. If a nearly 58 year old man can do every gym class every day for a month, you can walk through those doors and try one.

I'm not a professional athlete. I'm not a personal trainer. I'm just a guy who puts health and fitness at the top of his daily to-do list — and this April I'm turning that up to eleven. For Jim. For St Catherine's. For anyone who needs a reason to believe it's not too late.

My target is £4,000. Every single pound goes directly to St Catherine's Hospice and the incredible work they do for the people of Central Lancashire.

If this made you smile, or if St Catherine's has touched your life too — please donate whatever you can. And please share this page. The more people who see it, the closer we get to that £4,000.

Thank you. Now if you'll excuse me — I've got a 6am Bootcamp to get to. 🎗️
