Story

I'm going to be part of Team Lullaby and running the London Marathon in 2026!

Why support me?

My story…..On Friday 26th January 2024 my whole families lives changed forever, it started off like any other day, heading to an ongoing installation job in Leighton buzzard, I was travelling up with a colleague and I received a number of calls from my mum and brother. I thought I’ll call them back when I get there, it won’t be important.

An hour or so went by and I called my brother back to which I got no reply, I called my mum back to which I got no reply…this was a little odd so I phoned my sisters to which I got no reply, in the end I managed to get through to my brother to which he answered the phone “he’s dead, he’s dead, Tommys dead.” I was speechless and numb. Those words will never leave me and still haunt me to this day.

We all rushed to the hospital to be beside my brother and his son. I arrived with Tommy in my brother’s arms, still, not moving, eyes shut but at peace. In the room was my brother’s partner, my mum and my dad, probably the strongest members of our family in that room together and we were all broken. The pain and anger could be felt without a word being said. At this time I, myself had a nearly 8 week old baby and my sister had a 3 week old baby. The reality was this situation we all found ourselves in could have been any one of us but for some reason which we still don’t know why today it happened to Tommy.

For days, weeks and even months, we all struggled, sleeping or shall I say not sleeping with fear lingering over me that this could happen to me, many nights I would find my self struggling to sleep and checking to ensure my new-born was okay. It wasn’t only my myself struggling, the whole family was but no one else more than my brother.

Tuesday 16th April 2024, Following numerous autopsy tests we were no nearer finding out the cause of Tommys death and it was the day of the funeral. Two families were broken, the pain I saw on faces of family members I had never seen before, tears running down faces that I had never seen cry before, Tommy had touched those people in ways that no one quite realised. Tommy was laid to rest. 8 months of life brought so many smiles to so many faces and prepared me for what was to come.

The pain, trauma, anxiousness, and fear my family has gone through, no one should have to go through that’s why I chose to run the London Marathon 2026 in Tommys name to hopefully raise as much money as possible to support The Lullaby Trust.

My journey will begin on the 1st July, the overall aim is to complete the marathon in sub 4 hours in memory of Tommy.

The Lullaby Trust is a charity that saves babies' lives and supports bereaved families. Around 3 babies a week still die from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), The Lullaby Trust is committed to bringing that number down to zero.

I will be raising awareness and funds that will be helping grieving families to receive specialist help, funding research to prevent more babies from dying suddenly and unexpectedly, and allowing more parents to receive advice on safer baby sleep.

Your kind support is crucial to creating a future where no baby dies suddenly and unexpectedly. The Lullaby Trust is reliant on voluntary donations so your generosity helps save lives.
