Chris Smyth is raising money for Motor Neurone Disease Association
In memory of Jeff Wright

West Highland Way in Scotland, 96 miles, 14,700 feet plus of an ascent and then climbing to the summit of Ben Nevis

Motor Neurone Disease moves fast. It takes away time, it takes away independence and it has no cure. Every day we support people affected by MND. We fund ground-breaking research. We campaign for better care. We’re here for everyone who needs us. Because with MND, every day matters.

Story

In Memory of Jeff Wright — Chris's West Highland Way & Ben Nevis Challenge

On 16th May, Chris will take on one of the most demanding endurance challenges imaginable — running the full 96 miles of the West Highland Way through the stunning but unforgiving Scottish Highlands, before ascending to the summit of Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the British Isles. This is no small undertaking, and every single step will be taken in memory of a very special man.

Jeff Wright was Chris's closest friend. Watching Jeff battle Motor Neurone Disease — and ultimately lose that fight far too soon — left a profound mark. MND is a cruel and relentless disease, one that robs people of their movement, their voice, and eventually their life, whilst leaving the mind entirely intact. Chris witnessed this first-hand, and it is that experience that drives every mile of this challenge.

Now in his 50th year, Chris has chosen to mark this milestone not with a celebration, but with a test of everything he has — physically and emotionally — to honour Jeff's memory and raise vital funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association in Northern Ireland. The MNDA funds critical research, provides support to those living with MND, and campaigns for better care for patients and their families.

Every pound raised will make a real difference. Please donate whatever you can — for Jeff, for every family affected by this devastating disease, and to cheer Chris on through every hard-earned mile.
