Story

This year we’re taking on a new cycling challenge to raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).

On Friday 19th June 2026, nine friends will set off early from Tebay, Cumbria, beginning a two-day loop ride around the Lake District. We’ll cover over 100 miles, with Allonby on the west coast marking the halfway point, where we’ll stay overnight before completing the loop on Saturday 20th June.

We’ve chosen this challenge to support a charity that plays a vital role across our region. The Great North Air Ambulance Service rescues hundreds of severely injured or critically ill patients every year across the North East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria. Their doctor-led critical care teams deliver life-saving treatment at the scene — whether that’s on a fell top, at the roadside, or in a city centre.

In 2024 alone, GNAAS responded to 2,083 call outs by helicopter and emergency response vehicles, providing advanced care that can mean the difference between life and death. As an independent charity, they rely heavily on donations to keep this service operating.

For those of us who live in rural communities, we know how essential the air ambulance is. But wherever you’re based — locally, elsewhere, your support helps ensure that expert care can reach people quickly, wherever they are.

If you’re able to donate or share this page, we’d really appreciate it. Every contribution helps keep this life-saving service in the air.

Thank you for your support 💛🚴‍♂️
