Lyke Wake Walk · 28 June 2025

The Bone Cancer Research Trust is the leading charity dedicated to fighting primary bone cancer. Our mission is to save lives and improve outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer through research, information, awareness and support.

Story

Fifty years ago this year, at the age of 11, Chris completed the Lyke Wake Walk with Masham Young Farmers. This year, Chris along with several family and friends (John Dickinson, James Dow, Charlie Verity, Matt Dickinson, Stuart Hymas, Miles Johnson and Janie Beadsall) are attempting to repeat the challenge. In the process we are hoping to raise some money for Bone Cancer research, a cause close to our hearts as Lucy, our daughter, has been battling bone cancer since 2021. Lucys full story and the previous actives for Bone Cancer research are detailed here :-

The Lyke Wake walk is a challenging 42 mile trek across the North Yorkshire moors from Osmotherly to Ravenscar on the coast, The Lyke Wake Walk also has an anniversary this year, it was established in 1955, 70 Years ago.

Bone cancer brings heartbreak and devastation to hundreds each year. Too often, patients reach the end of current treatment options with no further hope.

While other major cancer charities often overlook bone cancer, the Bone Cancer Research Trust is the leading UK charity funding research into this brutal disease – thanks to the generosity of its supporters.

With continued investment, they’ll find new treatments and, one day, a cure for all. Until then, they’re here for everyone affected, offering support, trusted information, and hope.
