Story
Last year when listening to a podcast, I came across someone talking about a charity called Winston's Wish and I thought to myself ‘what an amazing charity, I really wish I had something like this when I was a little boy’.
For those who don't know, my amazing Mum sadly passed away to cancer when she was 36 years old, and I was 9. Growing up I always had a weird fear of turning 36 and fast forward 25+ years later and here I am at that dreaded age, so rather than fear it anymore, I want to accomplish something I never thought I would and run a marathon.
To top this achievement off, my wife Kate will be joining me and together we will be running a marathon in my Mums hometown of Belfast 🇮🇪. We will be both fundraising for Winston's Wish, a charity set up to support bereaved children and young people and something I wish I had access to as a young boy growing up not understanding the world of grief I was living in.
Every day across the UK, children and young people lose someone significant to them. The death of someone important can be the most traumatic experience a child or young person will ever face.
Your donation (big or small) is important to Winston's Wish and will go a very long way.
£8 could provide a set of crafts and activities, including all of the materials needed to make a memory jar which serve as a reminder of special memories shared with their loved one.
£12 could enable us to provide one child with a memory box that can be used to store treasured objects, helping them to remember their loved one in a way that is personal to them.
£26 Could cover the cost of an online information session led by a Winston's Wish bereavement support worker.
Winston’s Wish relies on voluntary charitable donations to support children and their families following the death of a parent, sibling or important person. Since 1992, they have helped tens of thousands of bereaved children and young people and, with your help, can help tens of thousands more during the most difficult time of their lives.
Thank you for your support.
