Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 29th March 2024, whilst out riding my bike, training for the Etape Loch Ness 2024, I had a cardiac arrest. Along with some amazing people, the West Midlands Air Ambulance saved my life. I was dead for 10 minutes before the defibrillator got me back!!
The Air Ambulance crew were unbelievable in the way they took control of the situation, so I’m told, and I will be forever grateful for the care they gave me.
Since 1991, the charity has responded to more than 77,000 missions, making it one of the longest established and busiest air ambulance organisations in the UK. Each year it costs £16 million to maintain the three aircraft, critical care cars and the provision of a lifesaving service. Each air ambulance mission costs an average of £2,950. The charity does not receive Government funding and relies solely on donations.
So, as I missed out on the Etape Loch Ness last year I am doing it this year on 27th April with my great friend Rob Smith, who was with me last year on the day of my episode.
The Etape Loch Ness is Scotland’s largest closed road cycle sportive taking place around iconic Loch Ness offering the chance to cycle 66 miles (106 km) on traffic free roads. The stunning 360° route around the loch starts and finishes in the Highland capital of Inverness with 900m of ascent. The King of the Mountain stage features a 4.8 mile (7.72 km) climb gaining 380m in height with a gradient reaching 12% at times.
