Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
It’s been 5 years since Lynda and I took on the Brighton Marathon… so it’s time for a new challenge.. 100km ultra marathon this time - for the amazing SEN school that my daughter Millie is lucky enough to attend!!!
First I’m going to let Millie tell you herself why St Luke’s is so amazing…
“‘My school is a school for people like me. I get taught in a way that works for me. I feel proud to be me at St Luke’s - I get the help I need. I can’t imagine being anywhere else. When I’m at St Luke’s I feel just right - and I feel great.”
Enough said .. this school is incredible. I am so grateful we found a school that sees and nurtures the talents of my learning disabled daughter. She feels ready to take on the world as a result of the outstanding support she has received at St Luke’s.. and I have no doubt she will achieve her goals!!!
And now the “official write up”
Friends of St Luke's supports St Luke's School in Redbourn. It is a Special Educational Needs School for children with Learning Disabilities and Complex Medical Needs including but not limited to Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Speech and Language Communication Needs and Moderate Learning Disabilities. It is attended by children from all over Hertfordshire aged between 7 and 16 years.
Friends of St Luke's aims to raise awareness of Special Educational Needs, support our pupils to develop a deep understanding of themselves as an individual, whilst securing the vital funds needed for specialist sensory equipment, sports equipment and learning opportunities.
We are currently raising money to improve and equip our sensory spaces in the school. Sensory spaces play a vital role in creating a supportive environment for students with sensory processing challenges. These spaces provide a safe and calming space where students can regulate their sensory input, reduce stress, and enhance their focus and engagement in learning activities. By improving these spaces, we are investing in the well-being and academic success of our students.
The benefits of sensory spaces extend beyond the classroom. They provide students with opportunities to develop self-regulation skills, improve social interactions, build confidence in their abilities to cope with various sensory experiences.
Your contributions will enable us to equip our sensory spaces with a variety of tools and resources specific to meeting the diverse needs of our students. From sensory-friendly seating options to interactive sensory panels and calming sensory materials, every donation will help to create an enriching and supportive environment where our students can thrive, feel safe and valued in their school journey.
Thank you very much for your support.
Our aim is to provide facilities & resources for the amazing pupils that attend St Luke's School. We also want to raise awareness of the capabilities of our pupils who have a learning difficulty but are able to contribute to society in many ways. A school that celebrates differences!!
