Story
A word from Chris
Hi everyone,
My name is Chris and by the time you read this I should have turned 78 years old.
I have been a member of the RAFA Global branch for several years and I must confess to not being a very active one but I always read everything that is going on!
When I read on WhatsApp that there was the option of a Wing walk challenge to raise funds for the next Wings Appeal it sparked something exciting in me and I thought I would like to give it a go – so here we are.
I also realised that 2026 will be 60 years since I joined the WRAF as a young naïve Lancashire lass who had never been very far from home but knew I wanted a different, exciting life. I entered as a nursing attendant as the trade was known then.
I went on to accompany my husband on his many tours of duty in various UK RAF hospitals and also in Germany and Cyprus for the next 30 years. My youngest son also served as an Engineering Officer for 22 years.
So, why am I doing this thing at my age you may well ask. The truth is that I decided there is so much out there that scares me nowadays that I can do nothing about so I thought I would give myself something tangible to terrify myself with, and the added bonus of raising money for a brilliant cause and making my grandchildren proud!
I would be really grateful if you like my story and are willing to support me in this exciting but very scary venture.
