I’m swapping the scroll for a stroll this October for HEART UK
This October, I’m taking on the Swap the Scroll for a Stroll challenge to support HEART UK – The Cholesterol Charity.
Instead of spending more time scrolling on my phone, I’ll be swapping some of that screen time for movement, fresh air and positive action by walking throughout National Cholesterol Month.
I’ve chosen to take on the"100 Miles – Challenger"challenge this October to help raise awareness of high cholesterol — a major risk factor for heart attacks, strokes and vascular dementia.
I have an inherited cholesterol condition that is not routinely tested for in primary care. Unfortunately after having private testing we have discovered that my boys have inherited this condition too.
Heart UK are campaigning for the NHS to routinely test for this condition as we have a much higher risk of cardiovascular disease at a young age. Meanwhile, new drugs are being trialled to see if that can help. It's too late for my poor dad but he would be proud to see us trying to help change people's futures for the better.
I'm not a runner or a marathoner but I can get my walking boots on every day in October and go for it. If you want to join me just let me know.
Nearly 1 in 2 adults in the UK has raised cholesterol, often without even knowing it. HEART UK works to help people understand and manage their cholesterol and supports families affected by inherited conditions such as familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH).
Every donation, no matter the size, will help HEART UK continue its vital work raising awareness, providing support and campaigning.
