Story
On Sunday 6th July 2025, I will be taking part in the 20k Wirral Coastal Walk to help raise some much-needed funds for Jackson’s Animal Rescue.
For those of you who are not familiar with their work, Jackson’s is a relatively small charity, dedicated to the rescue and rehoming of domestic animals, and the rehabilitation and release of sick and injured wildlife all of whom receive care and treatment from specially trained staff and volunteers.
The Wildlife Centre in Frankby, Wirral is a dedicated RSPCA approved rescue, rehabilitation and release facility which helps sick and injured hedgehogs, and other small mammals. Their other site in Mold, North Wales rescues mainly cats and rabbits as well as providing a forever home for a small number of abandoned farm animals.
Like many other animal rescues, Jackson’s has seen a huge increase in the number of animals needing their help. Many of these animals are emergency admissions having been dumped or abandoned and are often in need of a huge amount of expensive medical care before they are ready to be rehomed. In many cases, they have not been neutered and so the rescue of one cat or rabbit often becomes a family of several hungry mouths to feed! There is also the added pressure of an ever-growing waiting list of animals needing to come into their care for a variety of different reasons. Similarly, the Wildlife centre has also seen many more sick, injured and orphaned hedgehogs admitted who also require multiple treatments and surgeries.
Raising money for a relatively small charity like Jackson’s is a constant worry, particularly in the current economic climate. They rely on the generosity of the public and the efforts of their supporters to fund their wonderful work.
I am very proud to have been a volunteer at the Rescue for almost 9 years and so have seen at first hand all the amazing work they do, always carried out with dedication, care and compassion and often under very difficult and distressing circumstances.
If you would like to help continue their vital work and are able to make a donation, however small, the animals and I will be forever grateful.
Many thanks
