Butt to Barra 2025 Team fundraising for Bethesda Hospice

Bethesda provides 4 hospice beds for specialist palliative care and 30 long-term care home beds. It is required to raise over £470,000 per year to keep the hospice open and offers a much needed and caring service to those who are terminally ill and those who require nursing care.

Story

When brothers Christopher and John Adams lost their beloved mum, Greta, to cancer at the end of last year, their world changed forever. But amid the heartbreak, they found a purpose: to honour her memory and give back to those who cared for her with such tenderness and dignity.

Greta spent her final months being amazingly cared for at Bethesda Hospice, where the care she received went far beyond medical support. The staff at Bethesda treated Mum like family, they comforted her, cared for her, and were there for us in ways we’ll never forget.”

To say thank you—and to help other families experience the same compassion— Christopher and John are taking on the 9 island 165-mile Butt to Barra Cycle, a challenging journey across the Outer Hebrides.

For this journey the brothers are swapping blue lights for bicycles. John, a firefighter with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, and Christopher, a paramedic with Scottish Ambulance Service, are used to tough conditions while serving their community but this ride is different. Every mile, every hill, is a tribute to Greta’s strength—and to the incredible team at Bethesda who stood by her side.”

The goal: raise funds to support the hospice’s vital work, improve facilities, and ensure no one faces the end of life without the care they deserve.

Please help them reach their goal. Every donation—large or small—goes directly to Bethesda Hospice and helps families like theirs in their time of greatest need.

Donate today in memory of Greta, and join Christopher and John on this meaningful journey.
