MS, what is that?
I have been in ‘a mess’ in the RAF during my career as a firefighter but following a tour in Afghanistan in 2006 having been diagnosed with optic neuritis just after I got married, following some additional issues and scans…. I was informed on Christmas Eve in 2007 that I had MS - Multiple Sclerosis! I was petrified…
Multiple sclerosis is a lifelong condition that affects the brain and nerves. There are many possible symptoms of multiple sclerosis. Common symptoms include tiredness, vision problems and problems with walking or balance. MS is caused by your immune system mistakenly attacking the brain and nerves. It's not clear why this happens.
So after many and years (to be honest of denial) I am just about to embark on my first fusion treatment this week; MS cannot be cured, but medicines and other treatments can help ease some of the symptoms.
I am doing this marathon not only as a challenge to myself but also to raise awareness about MS and also to flick the Vs up to this disease and thanks to (a couple of bottles of beer) my amazing mate Gareth Rees who is also my running buddy and ultimately who made me do it!!!
There are people worse off but just remember no matter what size of the hole in your canoe keep rowing and you will get through this. Thank you for all your support x
