The St Francis Hospital (SFH) Twinning Partnership with NHS Borders was formally founded in 2008 through the hard work and dedication of Dr's Sandy and Dorothy Logie. Located in the remote Eastern Province, SFH is Zambia's largest mission hospital & our UK volunteers support in various ways.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Starting at the Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwe border, I plan in my 66th year to walk right across Zambia to the Malawi border over a period of 2 months. Ever since my first visit to St Francis Hospital in 2012 I have been burdened by the need find funding for a safe and effective sanitation system at this remarkable 500 bed hospital and surrounding housing. They rely on old septic tanks and soakaways, many of which are collapsed, overloaded, or leaking, creating environmental and health risks. In 2026 we launch the 'ZamBaz' Project to achieve this goal. The name draws from a public health hero of mine, Sir Joseph William Bazalgette. His major achievement was the creation of sewerage system for London, in response to the Great Stink of 1858. It was instrumental in relieving the city of cholera epidemics, saving countless lives.

A total of £140,000 is needed. It is my goal to raise 10% of this through walk sponsorship. That is £14 per km. Can you help? The size of the donation is not important. Please just give only what you can afford and with a smile on your face!
