Story

A Word From Chris...

In April I will be attempting to run across the country in 120 hours, starting at St Bees on the West Coast and finishing at Robin Hood Bay on the East Coast

This challenge will take me through England's toughest terrain, the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, and the North Yorkshire Moore

I'm doing this to help the Barnsley Breast Care unit transform its facilities at Barnsley Hospital

Cancer in any form is a horrible disease, and when it strikes it can leave families devastated

I strongly believe a woman is often the heart and soul of a family, and breast cancer unfortunately takes this heart away from families too quickly, and without remorse

I've seen it with my own eyes

Ladies in Barnsley who get diagnosed with breast cancer deserve the very best treatment and care and this is why I'm taking on this challenge

Please read on for more info, and thanks for visiting and donating to this deserving cause.....

A word from Barnsley Hospital Charity ...

Our Breast Care Appeal will support the transformation of our dedicated Breast Unit, where patients receive breast care. Our specialist doctors, nurses, and radiology team see patients for consultations, imaging assessments, and biopsies.

Around 7,381 patients are seen annually in the unit with a variety of symptoms, including breast lumps, nipple changes, and lumps in the armpit. This equates to around 142 patients per week and, of those, an average of around 250 breast cancer patients are treated annually. Ongoing appointments such as with Breast Care Nurses, prosthetic expert and doctors take place within this unit.

We envision a healing space where sensitivity is at the heart of every detail. Imagine stepping into a serene waiting area, surrounded by natural calming scenes. Comfortable seating will be arranged in small clusters, creating a welcoming environment where patients can feel at ease, even in their most vulnerable moments.
