When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to.
At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. We’ll face it all together – but we can’t do it without you.
Young Lives vs Cancer is a charity that helps children, young people and their families across the UK understand and cope with the emotional, practical and financial burdens that come with a cancer diagnosis. In 2025 the Young Lives vs Cancer Belfast social care team supported 163 families in Northern Ireland.
Young Lives vs Cancer has two Homes from Home in Northern Ireland, Amy’s House and Paul’s House. Both Homes from Home welcomed 211 families combined in 2025, with families spending a total of 2,209 nights in the Homes.
Did you know that…
• £9 could mean a parent could take their child to chemotherapy and not have to worry about the costs of petrol and parking.
• £26 could pay for an hour of a Social Workers time. Whether they organise grants for the family or are there to offer a listening ear, our wonderfully dedicated Social workers are there from the moment a child or young person is diagnosed with cancer.
• £70 could pay for a family to stay overnight in one of Young Lives vs Cancer’s Homes from Home, providing free self-catering accommodation near to specialist children’s cancer treatment centres, which are often many miles from a family’s own home. You can take a virtual tour of the Homes from Home here.
