Story
💚 Running for London’s Lifesavers 🚑
When a heart stops, the most powerful response isn’t always blue lights — it’s a human being.
But I don’t just want to raise money — I want to use the power of social media and my network of more than 4,000 contacts to make a difference.
My name is Christopher Newman, and since 2014 I’ve been proud to serve alongside the incredible people of the London Ambulance Service (LAS) as an Emergency Responder Volunteer. I’m also a trained Trauma Risk Management Practitioner and Mental Health First Aider.
On 11 October 2026, I’ll be taking on the Royal Parks Half Marathon to raise money for the London Ambulance Charity — with a little twist!
I’ll be running in my LAS uniform and carrying a fully equipped operational response bag, including oxygen, airway adjuncts and other lifesaving equipment. It’s going to be heavy, hot and probably a little ridiculous… but hopefully it will shine a light on the amazing work of our ambulance crews and volunteers.
🎯 My target is £2,000.
I’m incredibly fortunate to have built a large and supportive network of friends, colleagues, professionals and communities over the years, and I want to use that reach to help tell the story of the incredible people behind the London Ambulance Service.
Just imagine the difference we could make if everyone in my network gave just £1.
With more than 4,000 contacts, that could mean £4,000 raised — potentially enough to help provide several public access defibrillators, giving communities vital lifesaving equipment that can be used in those critical minutes before an ambulance arrives.
One pound might not feel like much on its own.
But 4,000 people each giving £1?
That could be a genuinely lifesaving difference. 💚
If I can get people talking, sharing, donating and supporting this campaign, then hopefully we can turn one person’s challenge into something much bigger — raising awareness as well as vital funds for the people who dedicate themselves to helping others.
Why am I doing this?
Every day, LAS staff respond to people on the worst days of their lives. I regularly witness their incredible dedication, both on the frontline answering 999 calls and behind the scenes supporting patients, colleagues and communities.
But the people who care for London also need someone to care for them.
Ambulance workers face extraordinary pressure, often with little opportunity to pause or recover. Mental health and wellbeing are incredibly important to me, and I want to support initiatives that give LAS staff and volunteers access to the tools, support and welfare services they deserve.
I’m also incredibly proud to be an Emergency Responder Volunteer. We are LAS-trained volunteers who respond to emergencies in uniform and blue-light response cars, helping bridge those vital minutes until ambulance crews arrive.
We don’t replace ambulance crews — we help bridge the gap until they arrive. Because in cardiac arrest, every minute matters.
Your donation can help fund CPR training, public access defibrillators, volunteers and vital wellbeing initiatives — giving people the best possible chance when every second counts.
Could you help? 💚
Perhaps you could donate the cost of your morning coffee. It might seem small, but together those donations can make a huge difference.
Or perhaps just give £1.
If everyone in my network did the same, we could turn thousands of small donations into something genuinely lifesaving.
If you can’t donate, please share my JustGiving page with your friends, family, colleagues and communities. Every share helps.
And if you’re a brand interested in sponsoring my run, I’d love to hear from you. I have a rather large green response bag that would look fantastic covered in your logo! 💚
I’m running for the people who run towards emergencies.
For the crews who answer the 999 calls.
For the volunteers who give their time.
For the families who need one more tomorrow.
Please sponsor me, share my story, and help me support the people who work tirelessly to keep London safe.
Thank you for supporting me — and the amazing people of the London Ambulance Service.
