Story
When a small group of U.S. journalists formed CPJ in 1981, it was to defend the rights of their colleagues abroad. We continue to do so. Today, CPJ is recognized as a leader in the press freedom movement. We have provided assistance to more than 1,000 journalists from all over the world, and our advocacy has helped win dozens of positive legal reforms, convictions in scores of journalist murders, and the early release of hundreds of jailed journalists.
