Story

Why I’m running the London Marathon

I’m running the London Marathon to raise money for Leeds Hospital Charities, specifically to support the children’s liver team at Leeds Children’s Hospital.

This one is personal.

My son, Noah, is a liver transplant survivor. Without the extraordinary care, skill, and compassion of the children’s liver team in Leeds, he simply wouldn’t be here today. There’s no dramatic exaggeration in that sentence. It’s just the truth.

From surgeons and nurses to specialists, coordinators, and support staff, this team does far more than deliver world-class medical care. They look after frightened children and exhausted parents during the most difficult moments of their lives. They bring calm into chaos, hope into fear, and somehow manage to do it all with kindness and humanity intact.

The NHS saves lives every day, but charities like Leeds Hospital Charities make an enormous difference beyond what core funding can provide. They help fund specialist equipment, family support, better environments for children spending long periods in hospital, and research that improves outcomes for kids who desperately need it.

I can’t repay what was given to my family. But I can run 26.2 miles, suffer a bit (or a lot), and try to turn that effort into something meaningful.

If you’re able to donate, you’ll be supporting a team that changes – and saves – children’s lives every single day. If you’ve ever wondered whether a donation really makes a difference, I’m standing proof that it does.

Thank you for reading. Thank you for donating. And thank you to the incredible Leeds children’s liver team for everything you do.
