Story
In the last few weeks, we have all said these words, "It's too hot!" But imagine spending 1¼ hours on a Mozambican bus, then walking through the bush for 7 to 10km (depending on the route available) to meet with some of the women in a WOW cluster in Nhalivala, then walking back and getting on the bus again, all in temperatures of 30+ degrees, plus being at risk of a nasty snake bite!
Nhalivala is just one of the four clusters that Lourenco, our project manager, has to visit twice a month, all with no transport since his motorbike broke down and is unrepairable.
This is where the Chunky Challenge comes in again! On the 22nd September I will be travelling to Mozambique and would love, while I am there, to buy a new motorbike for WOW that Lourenco can use.
So here is my challenge: from the 1st August till 21st September I will either ride 25km or crawl, walk, or run 5km every day in August, rising up to 10km in September. My days will alternate between cycling and running, and on the last day of the challenge, Monday 21st September, I will cycle 25km and run 10km!
The last time I cycled 20km was the last Chunky Challenge, three years ago, and the last time I ran over 2 to 3km was about five stone ago and 30+ years ago. So ,this might be easy for some, but for a 56-year-old who is overweight, this is not fun in any way.
Even just typing this, I feel sick! The cycling and running will be in the gym, but I may even venture outside for the run!
So, it will be 52 days of fun. NOT!
If you can, please support and follow me on socials for daily updates, and let's see how much I can raise! If I raise more than the cost of a motorbike, this will be used for the Women’s projects in Mozambique.
