Ciarán Fenton: That's you

the wonder, humour & trauma of chemotherapy – a charity performance for Imagine Belfast! Festival of Ideas & Politics 2025

Ciarán Fenton is a leadership consultant, board facilitator, business author, in remission from mantle lymphoma following a year of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant at Belfast’s City Hospital in 2022.

He has never performed before and will perform a piece he is currently writing live for charity on Substack (see https://substack.com/home/post/p-153791535) to raise money for the four NI cancer charities that helped him, to thank those who saved his life, to propose ideas to the medical profession for mental trauma management in their cancer pathways based on his experiences as a patient and a change in the politics of cancer funding, which he calls NINow for Cancer using the new environment, society and governance (ESG) developments in businesses.

In addition, he wants to encourage those starting or going through chemotherapy and in writing and performing this piece to live his carpe diem mantra, adopted since remission, to help process his experience and stretch himself outside his comfort zone.

That’s you is commonly used in Northern Ireland when something is completed. Ciarán heard it as a balming blessing from his nurses countless times during his treatment.
