Story
I'm proud to be joining #TeamARUK in the 2026 Dublin Marathon!
In December 2023, we said goodbye to my dad after his long battle with vascular dementia. He was an incredible man - a skilled carpenter who took real pride in his work, loved nothing more than a round of golf with friends, and found peace pottering about in the garden. But what defined him most was the love he had for his family - my mum, all of us kids, and his grandchildren meant everything to him.
Dementia slowly took away the things that brought him joy. The independence he'd always valued, the conversations we cherished, the activities that filled his days - all gradually slipped away. Losing him has left a hole in our hearts that nothing can fill, and there isn't a day that goes by when we don't miss him.
Alzheimer's Research UK is leading the charge in dementia research, working tirelessly to find better treatments and, one day, a cure. Every pound raised brings us closer to a future where families won't have to experience the heartbreak we did.
Running this marathon is my way of turning grief into purpose, of honouring Dad's memory by fighting for others still facing this disease. I'm so grateful for any support you can offer - together, we can make a real difference.
Thank you for joining me on this journey as we run towards a world free from dementia.
