On May 29th I head off from Lands End to ride the length of UK (Lands End to John O'Groats)in 14 days with the aim of raising funds for the charity Winston's Wish in memory of my friend Claire. Winston's Wish was the charity Angus (Claire's youngest of four) reached out to. He felt from such tragedy a need to create some good and so used his experience of grieving to help other youngsters in similar situations by initially writing pieces on 'dealing with grieving at Uni'. That's the Goldsmiths for you, thinking of others.

It has taken me a long while to conjure up enough courage to honour my beautiful friend but I think this ride/journey feels right and I just hope I do you proud 'girl'.

Claire left behind a wonderful husband and four incredible children in 2020 after a tragic accident. She was the most remarkable person in so many ways and not least as the 'bestest' of friends. Her talents were in abundance, photography, art, cycling and running to mention but a few but more than anything her zest for life was infectious. I shall always remember her glorious smile, cheeky laugh and comments such as 'keep up Cindy'.

Claire you said to me many times 'Do one thing that scares you everyday' so that's what I'll be doing, hopefully with you alongside."

Every day across the UK, children and young people lose someone significant to them. The death of someone important can be the most traumatic experience a child or young person will ever face.

Winston’s Wish relies on voluntary charitable donations to support children and their families following the death of a parent, sibling or important person.
