The BIG CISWalk Challenge - 20th September

Thornycroft Centre Staff is raising money for CISWO, The Coal Mining Charity

Sponsored Walks

CISWO’s is raising vital funds for a new accessible minibus to help vulnerable people stay connected to the Thornycroft Day Centre Every journey reduces social isolation and helps ensure no one is left behind.

Story

The staff team from CISWO’s Thornycroft Centre are taking on an exciting fundraising challenge, to raise vital funds for a new accessible minibus to transport older and vulnerable people from across South and West Yorkshire to the Centre.

The Challenge!

On September 20th, Jo, George, Nikki, Paul, Chris, Andrea,  Kelly and other Thornycroft Centre staff will take on the Big CISWalk Challenge, walking one of the minibus routes travelled by our members to raise vital sponsorship for the campaign. It will be the exciting finale to a whole week of fundraising, with members completing sponsored laps around the Centre and grounds to represent the journeys they make each day.

We’re really looking forward to getting out there, taking on the challenge together and doing our bit to help secure a new minibus – something we know is so important in helping our older and vulnerable members get to Thornycroft, stay connected and enjoy everything the Centre has to offer. We’ll even be popping by some members’ homes along the way to say hello!

Why we're doing this?

At CISWO, our community minibus helps older and vulnerable people from across South and West Yorkshire make the journey to our Thornycroft Centre in Pontefract.

However, our current minibus is ageing and increasingly unreliable, meaning we sometimes have the heartbreaking task of telling members that their transport has been cancelled.

For someone who lives alone, a cancelled journey can make a big difference.

If I couldn't come on the bus I wouldn't be able to come. I'd be lonely again like I was before. It's a long week when you're on your own.

That’s why we’re fundraising for a new, reliable accessible minibus – to provide the dependable transport our members need and help ensure they can continue enjoying the friendships, activities, support and companionship that Thornycroft provides.

For the people we support, this isn’t simply a minibus – it’s a lifeline.

What difference will it make?

A new, reliable accessible minibus will keep these vital journeys going, providing older and vulnerable people with dependable, door-to-door transport to Thornycroft. It will mean fewer disruptions and more opportunities for members to see friends, take part in activities, stay active and access the support they need.

But the impact goes far beyond transport. It means someone getting out of the house and seeing friends. Staying active. Trying something new. Getting advice or practical support when they need it. And continuing to be part of a place where they are known, welcomed and valued.

Your support

Please support our fundraising challenge and help keep this lifeline on the road. Every donation will help ensure that no one misses out on the friendships, activities and support at the Thornycroft Centre, simply because they cannot get there.

Thank you for your generosity.
