Story
Every three minutes someone in the UK develops dementia. Today, there are around 944,000 people in the UK living with dementia, and by 2025, that number will have grown to well over one million. Dementia is a growing problem, and we’d like your help to fund nurses to help care for those suffering with the disease.
Dementia is a degenerative disease, with symptoms often beginning with memory loss and problems with language and understanding. These can then lead into confusion and delusions.
As the disease progresses, ultimately people need help with all basic daily tasks, and in time the person is no longer themselves, which naturally becomes extremely upsetting for their family and friends.
Having specialist nurses who understand the condition and are able to support both the sufferer and family through what can be a long and painful journey is vital, and we need many more of these nurses to support the projected growth of Dementia.
For Dementia UK, these nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, provide free, life-changing support and advice to anyone affected by dementia.
£154 could pay for the telephone costs of 40 families calling the Dementia UK free Helpline for expert dementia advice.
£608 could fund a 12-week course for a new Admiral Nurse, developing their dementia expertise to tailor the support they give to families at breaking point.
---------------
On the 5th December, Citrix are embarking on a unique 5-mile fundraising walk for Dementia UK.
Starting at an undisclosed location, we'll navigate through London to our office in Paddington without the aid of maps, directions, or outside assistance. This is to simulate the confusion and disorientation often experienced by individuals with dementia.
By experiencing some of the challenges of living with dementia, even for a short time, we can begin to understand the immense difficulties faced by those living with this condition. This experience can be a powerful tool for fostering empathy, deepening our understanding, and strengthening our commitment to supporting those affected.
All proceeds from this event will go directly to Dementia UK, providing vital support and resources for families facing dementia.
Please help support this worthy cause and make a difference in the lives of those affected by dementia.
Together, we can make a difference.
