London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·

We’re the 10 million people living with arthritis in the UK. The carers, researchers and healthcare professionals. The family, friends and fundraisers. United by a clear vision: a future free from arthritis. One in which no one is limited by the pain, fatigue and isolation that arthritis can cause.

Story

In 2021, I felt at my fittest after completing my first marathon along Loch Ness. It was the best thing I've ever done and I had my heart set on running the London Marathon as my next goal.

That very quickly came to a halt after I started to feel intense pain in my feet and hands just a few weeks later. I couldn't put weight on my feet and was struggling to walk and grip my hands. I was then diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, an auto-immune condition which attacks the body's healthy tissues - causing pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints.

I broke down in tears when I was told I'd likely never be able to run again. It was a devastating blow, as running had become a part of my lifestyle. I struggled to come to terms with my new reality and found it hard to stay positive. I was referred to the Versus Arthritis charity, who offered hope and incredible support.

Fast forward a few months, I started to feel better, as the first type of treatment I opted for seemed to be working successfully, to the point where I'm now able to be active again, and even get my running shoes back out! I know I'm one of the lucky ones by responding to the treatment well and I never, ever take for granted the fact that I'm able to be active. This is part of the reason why I'm so positive, because I feel like myself again.

With all that said, I've decided I'm going to fulfil my dream by running the 2025 London Marathon for Versus Arthritis, and for everyone who isn't able to due to this condition. Versus Arthritis offered a beacon of hope, so I can't wait to spread the same positivity in my fundraising.

Millions of people wake up with arthritis every morning and face the day in pain, without the support and recognition they deserve. Arthritis attacks what it means to live and people with arthritis are often left to manage alone. Versus Arthritis invests in breakthrough treatments, the best information and vital support for everyone affected by arthritis.

Any donation would be hugely appreciated and will spur me on to the finish line!

Thank you so much!
