As many of you will be aware Grace was diagnosed with a MacroProlactinoma in March 2023 at just 13 years old which is very rare for her age! (She is now 14) This is a benign, functioning tumour which was producing very high levels of the hormone prolactin in her body causing Hyperprolactinemia, Galactorrhea & Secondary amenorrhea. The tumour was initially putting a lot of pressure on her optic nerve which if not resolved can result in loss of vision. This is monitored regularly by an eye specialist (opthalmologist) who will check the strength of her eyesight and charts her fields of vision with scans. The last 6 months of treatment have been pretty hard going and the effects of the condition along with the medication has had a huge effect on Graces life both physically & mentally! The decision has now been made not to operate due to the risks involved but to plan long term management of her condition for now. In support of The Pituitary Foundation Grace will be hosting a fundraising evening on 21st October and aiming to raise funds & awareness during the whole month of October.
