On the 18th October I will attempt to be the 5th ever female to complete an Ironman in the handcycle category. This means doing the whole event using just my arms. I will swim 3.8km, handcycle 180km and then use a racechair to do a full marathon.

What makes this even more special? I will be doing the race alongside my fiance (he will then be my husband) for our honeymoon!

Why an Ironman?

In 2019 when out riding my bike, preparing for a race to get my professional racing licence, I was hit by a tractor and sustained catastrophic injuries including a complete sever to my spinal cord making me paralysed from the chest down.

From the moment I woke up I was determined to become an athlete again. My first words to my family?... 'para-athlete'. Little did I know how far this new journey would take me. I have cycled from London to Paris, completed a half ironman, raced internationally for GB on my handbike, and now I am ready to take on my biggest challenge yet - a full Ironman.

Why Wings for Life?

When you sustain a spinal cord injury you are often told that you will not walk again, that life will not be the same, there is no cure and there is no hope. Wings for Life challenges all of those negative ideas. Wings for Life is seeking a cure for spinal cord injury and they truly believe that they will find one within my lifetime. I want this for all of those newly injured people. All of those people who are scared for what might be to come. I do not want them to have to rebuild their lives the way that I have. Whilst I love my life now, it is hard and I know many people for whom it has been too much to keep going.

What is unique about Wings for Life is that every single penny you donate will go directly towards spinal cord injury research. All of the overheads, admin, staff costs are completely covered by Red Bull meaning that you can be 100% confident that all of your donation is going to help those with Spinal Cord injuries.
