Story
As most people will know, Gill lived with Alzheimer’s the last 10 years of her life.
After the initial diagnosis we were fortunate to have support from a local organisation which gave Dad respite and Mum enjoyment, through joining in activities with like minded people and caring support workers. We were also very fortunate that mum was befriended by the wonderful Christina, who kept her doing the activities that she loved, for as long as possible.
Support like this is so needed when you get a diagnosis as it can be a very scary, lonely place not only for the individual but also for their families.
Dementia Matters Here (fordshire) is a Herefordshire wide independent charity that fills the gaps in service provision and opportunities for people who are affected by dementia or memory loss, their carers and families.
They support people who may already have memory difficulties or are worried about their or a loved one’s memory and can support and advise through the diagnosis process if necessary.
They also offer a number of different services and projects, including developing social opportunities, across the county.
Any donations in memory of Gill would be much appreciated.
