We will be taking on the challenge of walking the Malvern Hills from end to end following the ridge of the main hills from Chase End to North Hill (stopping for cake at British Camp) the route is approximately 9.3 miles with 981 meters of elevation and will take 5-6 hours of walking (plus time for cake)

The reason for taking on this hike is to raise awareness and money for the Midland Air Ambulance after finding need of their service when one of the group severed their foot in an accident last year. The Air Ambulance was called by paramedics at the scene upon realising the severity of the injuries, They flew 16 minutes directly to the Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital in Birmingham where Trauma and Plastic Surgery Teams performed 10 hours of reconstructive surgery. It’s one year on and she is back up and walking and wanted to do something to say thank you and ensure others in her position get access to the same vital service.

The air ambulance is mostly funded by the public and relies on donations from individuals and organisations of 16 million pounds per year without which it could not continue the service as we know it today. Not only are there 3 Helicopters but also 3 critical response cars that are deployed when the aircraft can’t be mobilised due to weather conditions etc. Each flight call out costs £2950. A car mission £288. The Air Ambulance service responds to around 12 call outs per day averaging 4500 per year. The service is vital for fast response, it can reach anywhere in the 6 counties it serves in 10 minutes. Time really does save lives.
