Scottish Burned Children's Club (SBCC) Launched in 2001, the SBCC provides a network of support to burn survivor children and their families dealing with the lifelong scars of burn and scald injuries. We provide positive support to burn-injured children and help them realise that, although their body image has been altered, their hopes and dreams are just as achievable. Our Aims - Firstly to help in the rehabilitation process of these children and provide support to their families. Secondly to play a key role in the reduction of such injuries by raising awareness of the problem and promoting safe practice in relation to the dangers associated with burns and scalds. SBCC is solely funded by fundraising events, sponsorship and donations and is run and organised by a group of 'unpaid' volunteers.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am raising money for this amazing charity as it is very close to my heart...... and we are skint!!!

Having worked in an NHS Burns Ward and now volunteering with the SBCC I have an understanding of the impact a burn or scald injury has on a child and their family unit.

Have you ever burnt your hand on the iron or oven door? Can you imagine being a child and this happening to you? Or pulling a cup of tea over your chest!!

Burn and scald injuries not only cause physical trauma but also psychological and emotional trauma to the whole family unit. Parents, carers and siblings can carry a tremendous amount of guilt when the child has been injured, and can feel very isolated.

In order to relieve some of this stress, the SBCC organises day trips, special events and visits to various organisations throughout the year for children and their family members to provide encouragement and comfort to each other, realising they are not alone.

Once a year we have a magical summer camp. This provides an opportunity for burns survivors to meet up with each other to talk, share experiences, and make lifelong friendships with others in similar situations. They take part in exciting new activities away from normal daily life. The children “get each other!” From bonding at camp, facing their fears and challenging themselves, their confidence, self-esteem and personal development blossoms.

Dealing with the effects of life long scars, we help them to realise that although their body image has been altered their hopes and dreams are just as achievable as any other child.

This all costs money and we are hoping you can kindly spare some money to help this worthy cause. As a small charity we are solely funded by sponsorship and donations. If you can help in any way please donate.

Come visit me in A&E on the 29th if you are about as I am predicting painful legs following a 23 mile walk

On behalf of the kids and volunteers of the SBCC THANK YOU!!
