On the 12th April 2026. One of our nurses Claire is running Paris marathon to raise money for our department. To help by toys and distractions to help the children in our department.

Claire has been training so hard doing 20km runs after a 12 1/2 hour shift to be as prepared as she can.

Every day at work, we care for children who arrive frightened, in pain, and completely out of their comfort zone. For many of them, A&E is overwhelming — bright lights, unfamiliar faces, and procedures they don’t understand. In those moments, something as small as a toy, or a distraction can make an enormous difference.

As a nurse in the Emergency Department, I’ve seen first-hand how play helps children cope with fear, pain, and uncertainty. A toy can bring comfort, a sense of normality, and even a smile during one of the hardest moments a child or family might face.

The money raised will go directly towards buying toys and gifts for children attending our department, working closely with the Play Specialist Chelsea to make sure we provide the most appropriate support for children of all ages.

Every penny raised will go straight back into our department, helping us make a frightening experience a little kinder, calmer, and more child-friendly.
