Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As some of you may know, my dad, Michael Hayselden, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2021. His diagnosis completely changed my family’s lives; my dad could no longer continue working, and my mum became his full time carer. As a family, we struggled to come to terms with his diagnosis, and my dad was so frustrated that he couldn’t do the things he could before.
BIADS are a self-funded charity which provide support for family members and activities for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. BIADS became a lifeline for my family. My dad was socialising again, and engaging in activities which he enjoyed; my mum was able to talk to others in her situation and get the support she desperately needed during this difficult time in my family’s lives.
Unfortunately, in May 2023, my dad’s condition deteriorated and he was placed in a care home. BIADS were a massive help in getting my dad into the fantastic care home that he is in now, and supporting my mum during this transition, from being his wife and full time carer, to no longer living in the same house as him.
Now it is my time to give back to the charity that have helped my family so much over the past three years. In September, I am running the Richmond RUN-FEST Half Marathon to raise money for BIADS. I am no avid runner, so this is a huge feat for me, but I want to challenge myself in aid of BIADS.
Thank you for your support!
