Hello, is this day and age where so much violence, war, political oppression is happening in the world, I choose to cycle to join a group of loving individuals who wish to support the spirit of resilience and hope of Palestinians cyclists, who, despite horrendous injuries, continue to share love and helping less fortunate than them. I believe in love and non judgement, and I pray that as our bodies cycles, as well as raising money for Palestinians, we create a field of love which can touch the hearts of young (and less young) Israelis soldiers who too are oppressed and are harming their souls as well, maybe without knowing.

Bonjour, dans ces temps où tant de violence, de guerre, d'oppression politique voit le jour dans le monde, je choisis de me joindre à un group d'individus bienveillants qui cherchent à soutenir l'esprit de résilience et d'espoir des cyclists palestiniens qui, malgré le fait d''être devenus unijambistes, continuent de soutenir leur compatriotes en pédalent à travers le pays pour distribuer de la nourriture.

Je fais confiance à l'Amour et au non jugement, et je prie pour que nos corps, alors qu'ils pédaleront, en plus de générer de l'argent pour soutenir l'équipe para olympique, le Gaza Sunburd, générant AUSSI (et peut être surtout) un champ d'amour qui touchera le coeur des jeunes (et moins jeunes) soldats israéliens, qui eux aussi sont oppressés et abîment leurs âmes peut être sans le savoir.

Mendip Friends of Palestine is inviting you to join our Team Heron to raise funds for the Gaza Sunbirds Paralympic cyclists. The ride will take place on Sunday 6th April 2025. We will cycle a 45 kilometre circuit on the Somerset Levels starting and finishing in the Cathedral City of Wells. The ride is approximately 4 hours with an additional pit stop/ lunch break, in Glastonbury. It is a flat circuit, on quiet roads and includes riding through the beautiful nature reserves of Shapwick Heath and Ham Wall.

As we experience the rich and varied bird life of the Somerset Levels, we will think of the Sunbird, the national bird of Palestine.

After his leg was shattered, along with his dreams, by an exploding Israeli bullet during the 2019 Great March of Return, the Olympic hopeful Alaa al-Dali set up an amputee cycling team, the Gaza Sunbirds. Since the 7th October 2023 and the subsequent Israeli bombardments of Gaza, the team has devoted its time to cycling one-legged round their homeland, distributing food and providing shelter.

We are cycling on the Somerset Levels in Solidarity with the Gaza Sunbirds and the people of Gaza and Palestine.

We are cycling to raise funds for the heroic Gaza Sunbirds and to raise awareness of the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian People.
