Cayman Marathon · 3 December 2023

Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune condition in which there is an increased tendency for the blood to clot. The condition can cause strokes, heart attacks, pulmonary emboli and DVTs. In pregnancy, APS is a leading cause of recurrent miscarriage and stillbirth.

Story

Earlier this year we lost my sister in law at the age of 30 to APS, something none of us even knew existed, leaving my brother a widow. By participating in the Cayman Marathon in both the half marathon and 4 man team relay category, I wish to raise funds, and awareness for APS. I will run in my sister in laws memory and for any other family that have lost a loved one to APS. I also wish to create awareness around APS in the Cayman Islands where I don't think enough is know about this syndrome.
