Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

My husband, Lawrence, was diagnosed with myeloma in 2015. We had never heard of this blood cancer until that time. There is no cure for myeloma but it is treatable. Because of its nature, it cannot be targeted in the way a tumour can. We are so grateful to everyone responsible in providing the life saving and ongoing treatment Lawrence needs.

For many years I have been fundraising for a cancer charity but I also wanted to raise some money specifically for Myeloma UK in the hope that, one day, a cure will be found for this little known cancer.

Inspired by Harold Fry's unlikely pilgrimage (if you have read the book or seen the film you will know!) I decided to embark on a 'pilgrimage' of my own to the place where Lawrence receives his treatment - Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford.

I noticed 'Miles for Myeloma' on the Myeloma UK website whereby you pledge to walk 24 miles to raise £240 (or more!) for the 24,000 people in the UK living with myeloma. I worked out that to walk to the hospital and back from my home in Great Dunmow, with slight detours, would just about fit the bill.

Because I am no longer a 'spring chicken', I will probably undertake my 'pilgrimage' in two parts (hopefully, only two!) accompanied some, if not all of the way by family and friends. I'll need witnesses!

I hope to undertake my walk in November or early December but it will be weather dependent, hence I have not tied myself to a specific date. My plans to do this earlier in the year were thwarted due to various circumstances but better late than never. I have my myeloma t-shirt at the ready!

If you are able to make a donation you will help to get a step closer to more effective treatment and hopefully, a cure for this awful disease.

Thank you very much for whatever you can spare - and for reading this far!
